What Are You Thankful For?
Its Thanksgiving here in the good old US of A and as a tradition we are taught from a young age to say what we are thankful for so I am dedicating this blog post to the things that I am thankful to have in my life this year.
I am thankful for 3 wonderful dogs
My Fury who earned 6 titles this year and who loves and protects me with all of her heart.
Jovi, my husband’s Malinois who is a constant challenge in training and teaches me about love and patience and who occasionally sneaks into the garbage takes the fuzz from the dryer and steals my husband’s clean laundry and shoes.
Cerberus who ensures that I get up each morning to let him out and exercise him; he teaches me just how naughty a puppy can be and makes me grateful for all the problems I haven’t had to deal with in dogs past. And, I am thankful that he makes me giggle and teaches me humility (sometimes we all need that).
Carnage the CAT makes me thankful each day she doesn’t bite me or anyone else (she is the most aggressive animal in the house) and I am thankful that she keeps me warm at night and in the bathtub.
“No No” or Noella the cat I am thankful for her because she is thankful that I saved her out of the trash and gave her a place to live. She entertains us all and I love her for her ability to love all the other animals no matter how naughty they are to her.
I am even thankful that I successfully released my adopted raccoon earlier this spring and that he still visits me for food and water. I can hear him talking to me and Fury when I train her outside from the woods 🙂
I am also thankful for my husband and his love and willingness to put up with me.
I am thankful for my sister, the only family member I have left, for her love and acceptance of me.
And, I am thankful that this year we have a warm home, and food to feed all of us (wild critters) and vehicles that are running.
I am also thankful for those I have lost and the love and relationships and memories that they have given me.
What are you thankful for this year?
I have been a professional dog trainer and pet sitter for over 20 years. I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, through the international Certification Counsel of Professional Dog Trainers. I have trained and worked with police, Schutzhund and personal protection dogs. I trained Assistance Dogs in a men’s prison and ran my own nonprofit organization to take adult dogs from shelters and to train them to assist children and adults with disabilities, at no charge to my clients. My nonprofit organization and I were nominated for several awards of merit and even made the front page of the Denver Post. I was a veterinary technician for many years, where I learned about all aspects of health and preventative medicine. I have trained and worked with exotic animals and cheetahs. I introduced a temperament testing program in my local shelter and sat on the board of directors. I volunteered with my dog “Mr. Snitch” and helped local children learn to read. I have attained obedience titles and several blue ribbons. I am constantly in search of ways to continue my education and excellence when it comes to animals, their behavior and their health.
